Family Travel in Tennessee's Smoky Mountains
Tennessee is a family friendly state rich with history, forests, mountains, rivers, outdoor adventure, and amusement parks. There are no limits to what you can find to do in Tennessee, so don't let special needs limit your family travel plans. We'd like to encourage you to check out these places in Tennessee's Smoky Mountains.
Dollywood: Dollywood is located in the Smoky Mountains. The park has a designated area for parking if that is what you need. If you need wheelchair access, the tram allows wheelchairs, as do some of the rides. Reviews of the park tell us that families enjoy the park and say the atmosphere is calm for children who might not enjoy the tension that can come with high excitement.
Smoky Mountains: The mountains can be viewed by driving and by trails. You can spend a few hours or half a day driving through the mountains. There are pull off areas to sit and watch animals or look at the scenery. Many of the pull off areas include bathrooms for everyone's convenience. If you want to walk, many of the trails are level enough for all ages, so they are not difficult to walk. If you want to make the time in the mountains educational, there are many guides on the Internet, or at the Ranger Stations that will give you information about the animals and plants. You can also enjoy some history and take a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Railroad.
Lodging: You can choose to stay in a hotel, or to give everyone in your family a little extra space, rent a cabin. There are more than enough cabins available in the mountains. The space and home atmosphere might be just what the entire family needs to enjoy more family time in the mountains.
