Planning a vacation that the whole family can enjoy can be stressful. Finding activities that are accessible and interactive for family members with special needs can be downright disheartening. Morgan's Wonderland in San Antonio, Texas saw the struggle so many families have and created an inclusive theme park full of rides, interactive games, and, in 2017, Morgan's Inspiration Island, the world’s first ultra-accessible splash park.
Gordon and Maggie Hartman built the 25-acre Morgan’s Wonderland after witnessing their daughter, Morgan, who has physical and cognitive challenges, unable to interact with other children at a hotel swimming pool. Morgan’s Wonderland was created to give those with and without disabilities a place to play, explore, and come together to build a better understanding of what it means to have special needs.
Sensory experience is an important part of the fun and enjoyment of Morgan's Wonderland. Lights, sounds, and tactile experiences are found in most sections of the park. There are also gardens and scenic walkways for those who want to enjoy a more quiet, relaxing environment.
