Buxton, NC
We only had 24 hours to spend in Buxton, North Carolina, but Cape Hatteras was a place that we had always wanted to experience so we added it to our travel itinerary! The journey to Buxton, North Carolina entails traveling through the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The views are raw, exposed and alive. You can’t help but conjure up images of pirates, shipwrecks, and romance novels! The National Seashore stretches 70 miles and is filled with miles of gorgeous beaches, great kayaking, opportunities to visit an authentic pirate museum and a chance to climb historic lighthouses that kept watch over the Graveyard of the Atlantic.
Where We Stayed
Cape Hatteras Motel
46556 Highway 12
PO Box 339
Buxton, NC 27920
1-800-995-0711
Situated directly on the beach, you can open your windows and listen to the roaring surf as you fall to sleep. Of course, you also have sand in your bed, but it’s a small price to pay!
SpecialGlobe Tip: The motel is not accessible as it is directly on the sand and built on stilts to prevent wash away. There are many accessible vacation rentals all along the Seashore. Check here for information on handicap accessible lodging.
