Cambridge, Maryland

Picture

A few summers ago when the kids and I took an East Coast road trip, I decided to take a detour to Cambridge, MD for the specific reason of staying at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina. I had read reviews of this being an excellent family destination located directly on the Choptank river and I had never seen the Chesapeake Bay area and was excited to see this historic town.

Where We Stayed:

Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa and Marina
100 Heron Blvd. at Route 50,
Cambridge, Maryland, USA,
21613
410-901-1234

This proved to be an excellent family destination! With 3 pools, mini golf, volleyball, an arcade room, boat rentals, beach and a playground, the kids were always busy! We had been unhappy with our first room and thet moved us to a larger room immediately with no problem which was a much better fit for us. I found the resort to be a little run down but the service was exceptional and the activities and amenities for families excellent. In addition on their 342 acre waterfront resort, they have a championship 18 hole golf course and a renowned Spa and salon for some pampering for the moms, if they are lucky enough!

Where We Ate:
This was a quick trip for us so we ate on site at the Hyatt. They have 4 onsite restaurants as well as poolside dining and a take out market for a picnic. Food was fresh, local and delicious.

Stoked: One night we decided to head into town for pizza and found Stoked Woodfired Pizza. The pizza was incredible!! I would say in my top 10 of all times and we have eaten a lot of pizza in our time!!  Well worth the visit!!

What We Did:
Where we only had one full day at the Hyatt, I wanted to experience the resort so we spent our day enjoying the pools, the beach and activities offered. Had we had more time, these local attractions looked well worth the visit.

Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge

Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad

Historic Bucktown Village Store

How We Got There:
We travelled by car down Route 9 along the NJ shore which ends in Cape May. We then boarded the Cape May/Lewes Ferry , which was fun for the kids. The trip took about 90 minutes and it was a late afternoon ride and quite beautiful! Once landing in Lewes, we still had a few hours to drive to Cambridge along rural roads filled with open fields and corn crops, not what I had expected to see but wonderful. Along the way, I had often wondered if Siri had lead us wrong until I finally saw the Cambridge, Maryland sign! Phew! I love all of the things you see on a road trip!
