Travel Tips & Tricks
Whether it is your 1st or 100th family adventure, here are some tips and tricks to help make travel easier. Picking a destination, packing or navigating the airport, we hope these tips and tricks get you going!
A Few Tips for Traveling with Special Needs Children Make Sure The Child Knows What's Going to Happen--It's great if the whole family knows all the details, but this is particularly important for the special needs child. If, for example, the family is planning to fly, then answer all the questions ahead of time--from where the luggage goes to what will happen on the plane. Make Arrangements With Travel Companies Ahead of Time--Make all the arrangements well in advance for wheelchairs, extra boarding time, special luggage that needs to stay with the child, etc.
Bring Familiar Items on the Trip--Bringing a piece of home can be calming for any child, especially one with special needs. A toy, a blanket, favorite food, books, and DVDs can all come in handy. Seek Out Like-Minded Families Who Understand--Particularly if traveling with a special needs child is a new experience, seek out parent groups and on-line forums that can provide encouragement and advice.
